| Fire Company Dinner Banquet |
| Author:Safety Officer Chris Kennedy |
| Fri, Jan 15th, 2010 8:00:00 pm -
Tonight, the Gap Fire Company held their annual dinner/banquet in the banquet facilities of the Shady Maple Smorgasboard in East Earl. The evening began with a prayer by Elvin Beiler followed by a food buffet. After a fulfilling meal, Chief Brad Kurtz introduced our distinguished guests, which included Township officials and representatives of the surrounding Fire Companies. Brad reviewed the statistics for 2009 which ended with a total of 300 calls. Next, it was time for the awards. The most calls ran for 2009 award went to Philip "I did it, I did it, I did it" Lawrence. The Firefighter of the Year award went to Chris Beiler, while the Chief's award was presented to Jeremiah Ely. This year a special award was given to the one with courage, but no brains. This award was given to Anthony "Scooter" Simpson for his attempt to operate an amish scooter down a hill only to realize that it took more skill than originally thought. Before Chief Kurtz exited the podium, Captain Dave Rathbun presented Brad with a gift certificate from the captains. This was done in appreciation for the work Brad had done in the past year.
Next on the agenda was an excellent year-in-review video slide presentation given by Chris Kennedy. Put together each year by Joe and Chris Kennedy, this presentation is one of the highlights of the banquet. President Chris Beiler took the podium next, and presented out going Company President Galen Stoltzfus with a plaque for his last 11 years as President. While Chris had the podium, the Ladies Auxiliary presented the Fire Company with a $15,000.00 check. All this was made possible by the extended work and efforts by the Ladies Auxiliary. A special thank you goes out to the Ladies Auxiliary for their dedication and support of the Gap Fire Company.
Also a special thanks to the crews of Rescue/Engine 5-12-2 (Willow Street) and Engine 3-9-1 (Liberty- New Holland) for standing by at our station so our members could enjoy a night out.
